About Fenni Chen
Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, Fenni was brought up not unlike most Taiwanese girls; her parents encouraged studying above all else, but wanted her to have some opportunity to explore other extra-curricular activities such as music. Neither her mom nor her dad played any musical instruments so when Fenni started excelling at the piano at the early age of four, her parents were pleasantly surprised.
Fenni pursued her musical talents throughout her elementary school years. She joined the school orchestra and marching band playing the accordion, marimba as well as the piano. She loved music. The more she played, the more she felt drawn to pursue it further.
After elementary school, Fenni was accepted by the famous and popular Taipei Hwa Kang Arts High School, and that is where she first discovered that she has a unique singing voice. Colleagues and teachers, who heard Fenni sing, described her voice as astonishing, rich, incredulously deep, and difficult to perceive how such a powerful voice can come out of such a petite frame. Her vocal talents were later discovered by Carnegie Mellon University when they visited her high school and offered her a rare opportunity to participate in their vocal performance program. She accepted the offer, and, upon graduating high school, she came to the US for her undergraduate studies.
While in the States, Fenni took every opportunity to share her talent. In 2005 and 2006, Fenni was invited by the Taiwanese Embassy to sing the country's anthem on Taiwan National Day at Boston Copley Plaza. On 4th of July 2006, she was invited once again by the Taiwanese Embassy to sing at The McCoy Stadium for the Team Taiwan vs. Team USA baseball game, which was highly publicized. In 2007, she represented UMass, singing solo in the Boston Symphony Hall with Keith Lockhart conducting the Boston pops orchestra.
Fenni also traveled around the world to sing. In 2005, Fenni performed in 16 concerts in Italy and Switzerland singing songs such as the popular "O Mio Bambino Caro" by Puccini. In 2008, Fenni sang in Asia, including representing United States in an International Vocal Competition in Beijing, China. She became a highly-publicized soprano in Taiwanese TV media and magazine.
Today, Fenni Chen continues giving singing performances worldwide with her highly dramatic and uniquely lyrical voice. Audiences from Asia, North America and Europe are captivated by her voice and performance style, which combine the essence of modern Western operas and the feminine charms of her native country of Taiwan.
